Chetter Galloway - Storyteller - Programs

Everybody Knows Brer Rabbit (YA-Program): Draws comparisons between Brer Rabbit tales and the Anansi spider tales from Africa. Chetter explains the characteristics of trickster tales, including the personality flaw of the trickster character that usually causes trouble, but leads to a moral lesson. Entertaining and educational, the Brer Rabbit tales will make students laugh out loud as they teach important life lessons and aid in character development.

Testifying: Humorous tales of divine intervention: Put on your Sunday best and get ready for church. Get ready to have your spirits lifted and your funny bone tickled with this hilarious collection of stories. See what happens when the unexpected disciple or prophet runs into trouble.

Jamming with the Jembe & Juba (YA-Program): Incorporates the Jembe drum and other percussion instruments such as the shekere, the double bell, and rattles in a high energy performance. Chetter explains the influence of the Jembe drum in West African culture as well as the role of griots, or storytellers, in preserving history. The program includes a sing along and lots of audience participation.

Free at Last: Now let me fly (YA-Program): This Civil War era program focuses on the lives of enslaved Africans. Their unknown stories are brought to life with music, drama, and storytelling. Additionally, Chetter teaches about research skills and how to develop historically accurate slave narratives.
